From the research on orthographical competence of elementary education students
The article presents the results of the research on orthographical competence of first year students of elementary education. Over two hundred written compositions have been examined in order to write down all instances of departures from spelling rules. On the basis of the examination, the spelling mistakes typical for the examined group have been classified and their possible reasons discussed. The conclusions also considered the linguistic processes taking place in modern Polish and their influence on orthographical custom. High frequency of the appearance of spelling mistakes in particular compositions showed that the level of orthographical competence represented by future teachers is not satisfactory.
